The second instalment of Contemporary East achieved some outstanding results which included Oleg Vassiliev’s Twilight which sold for £182,500 and £122,500 for The Dive by Georgy Gurianov.
Contemporary East is a stand-alone auction of contemporary art from Russia, Eastern Europe and the Caucasus. The inaugural sale took place in November 2013 and reached an outstanding total of £2.4m, including Ilya Kabakov’s Holidays No. 6, which sold for £962,500. The sale included five artists sold at auction for the first time and set nine records. The next Contemporary East sale will take place on 25 November 2014 and will include The Dive by Georgy Gurianov, Oleg Vassiliev’s Twilight and Nude by Vladimir Grigorievich Weisberg.
