Catalogue Note

This sketch for Bulatov's painting Special Femmes was completed in 1993, a few years after the artist had emigrated to Paris. He was heavily influenced at the time by the aesthetic of advertising and the Soviet plakat, and frequently combined words and images in his works. The present drawing features details from Bulatov's larger painting T-shirt, also painted in 1993.
