Biography

Richard heads the market-leading department of European Ceramics out of New York. He first joined the European Ceramics department at Sotheby’s, London in Autumn 2013 before moving to Sotheby’s New York in March 2019. He has led numerals landmark sales of ceramics collections, most recently the restituted Meissen porcelain collection of Margarethe and Franz Oppenheimer (2021), which set a new world record for a ceramics sale, Mario Buatta (2020), Ezra and Cecile Zilkha (2020); Henry H. Arnhold (2019) and Bernie and Lydia Starr (2019).

Prior to joining Sotheby’s, Richard spent five years working for another auction house and has over twelve years of experience in the industry. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art and History of Art from Kingston University, London.
