Biography

Richard Hird first joined the European Ceramics department at Sotheby’s London in Autumn 2013 before moving to Sotheby’s New York in March 2019. Prior to joining Sotheby’s he spent five years working for another auction house and has over ten years of experience in the industry. He has a particular interest English Pottery and Italian Maiolica. Mr Hird has been involved in the landmark sales including the ceramics collections of Gustav Leonhardt, John Winter, Tim Clarke, the Morpurgo family, Lord Ballyedmond , Anne and Frederick Vogel and Nelson and Happy Rockefeller. He is a member of the English Ceramic Circle, French Porcelain Society and American Ceramic Circle. Richard holds a degree in Fine Art and History of Art from Kingston University, London.
