Jacques Vauquier

Livre de fleurs dessinées d’après nature. Paris: J. Fr. Chereau, c.1680-1690

FIRST EDITION, 4to (265 x 200mm.), 53 plain engraved plates, 47 with accompanying outline plates, nineteenth-century brown half calf, binding rebacked retaining original spine

A charming suite of plates, not recorded in the standard literature or found in major libraries.

Jacques Vauquier (1621-1686) worked as an ornamental engraver, specialising in flowers and vases. He was a collaborator of Jean Baptiste Monnoyer, the famous flower painter. Guilmard says that Vauquier’s flower plates are as much sought after as those of Monnoyer himself.
