Large 4to (389 x 284mm.), 67 albumen prints (236 x 191mm., or the reverse), mounted on loose cards, verso only, manuscript captions in English, between two tooled cloth boards, with 'Herbarium' and ornament gilt to upper board, cloth ties to lower board, remains of envelope pasted to front pastedown, some leaves worn at edges (not affecting plates)some prints faded,boards slighty rubbed.


A portfolio of 67 diverse photographs of Java by Woodbury and Page, depicting the natural landscape, portraits of locals, cityscapes, and genre scenes. Woodbury (1834-1855) and Page (1833-1865) were British photographers who worked in Australia, Japan, China and the Philippines, and most notably in the Dutch East Indies, where this collection was shot on their tour of Java in the 1850s.
