Haegue Yang (South Korea, b. 1971) creates nuanced installations informed by poetry, politics, and human emotions. She often complements these with sensory experiences, including scent, sound, light, and tactility. Combining industrial fabrication and folk craftsmanship, her work extends across media (from paper collage to staged theater pieces and performative sculptures) and materials (clothing racks, bells, and graph paper) that are often torn, lacquered, woven, lit, and hung.

Throughout her practice, Yang has been transforming how we experience everyday domestic materials. This sculpture consists of a golden sink, situated upright on the wall and enveloped with glowing light. The work is from a series titled after her Seoul and Berlin studio addresses—in this piece, a Berlin street—speaking to Yang’s experience of working between the two countries for more than 20 years.

Yang has exhibited widely and has been featured in numerous biennials. Her works are held in the collections of the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Guggenheim Museum, New York; Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh; and many others.
