Moonrush was bred by movie mogul Louis B. Mayer and sold to Anita King and Gus Luellwitz in 1948 for $10,500. Trained by Willie Alvarado and jockeyed by Johnny Longden, he won the Santa Anita Handicap in 1951. Moonrush scored in total 18 victories and earned $434,830.


Johnny Longden (1907-2003) was an American Hall of Fame and National Champion jockey and a trainer of Thoroughbred racehorses. He won the Santa Anita Handicap four times aboard Thumbs Up (1945), Noor (1950), Moonrush (1951), and Poona II (1955).
