281 x 253mm. (frame 538 x 491mm.), watercolour, SIGNED BY ARTIST TO LOWER RIGHT, mounted, framed and glazed, some foxing to mount
Original watercolour illustration produced for the 1950/1 series of American Weekly covers, 'The Arabian Nights', published 31st December 1950. The other stories include: Princess Badoura dressed as the Prince, Prince Ahmed and the Fairy Peri-Banon, Prince Ahmed finds the Enchantress, The Sack of Gold (see lot 286), and Dancing Girl with the Knife (see lot 287)
This was the final series of illustrations that Dulac was to have published by American Weekly. Whilst working on the following series (see lots 288-290), Dulac was informed that due to the change from letterpress to retrograuve printing the editorial policy on magazine covers had changed and the company could not commit to any further artwork covers
