Edmund Dulac (1882-1953) was a French-British illustrator, and prominent figure of the Golden Age of Illustration (1880s – 1920s). Best known for his book illustrations, Dulac also produced caricatures, theatre designs and postage stamps. Dulac produced much of his book illustration work in association with the Leicester Galleries, and the publishers Hodder & Stoughton.
This watercolour was not produced with a specific publication in mind, but was included in the The Leicester Galleries annual exhibition of illustrations for upcoming publications in 1907, from which all exhibited works were sold.
