Ma Lisette, which depicts a poet can be seen reciting his verses to his lover on the sofa, was first published in the 1913 Christmas issue of L'Illustration, as one of four works on the theme of old French folk songs, Quatre Chansons du Vieux Temps. The other illustrations in the series include: l’amoreux transi, la petite lingere, and cadet rouselle. In 1915 Ma Lisette was reproduced in Edmund Dulac's Picture Book for the French Red Cross, comprising 20 colour plates from previous book and magazine illustrations.
