Dialogues de Lucien
Paris, Tériade, 1951.
Folio (385 x 280 mm). In leaves, in illustrated folded over wrapper. Publisher’s dust jacket and slipcase.
One of Laurens’ finest illustrated books.
24 original color woodcuts by Henri Laurens in full page, including one for the wrapper, plus pictorial table of the plates and 8 tailpieces and initial letters.
Limitation of 275 copies Arches laid paper, this one of 25 privately printed (n° VII). All are signed by the artist in the limitation notice.
This vigorous suite of color compositions in the collage style is the third work to emerge from the collaboration between Henri Laurens and Tériade.
"The verticality of the plates is accentuated by the conjugation of just one dark color with black, a color that varies with each series of dialogues: black and brown for Dialogues des dieux, blue and green like the sea for Dialogues marins" (Berès et Arveiller, Henri Laurens, 1885-1945, n° 155).
