Both publications were assembled by the publisher Simrock and may have had little or nothing to do with Mozart’s widow, who did publish a large amount of her husband’s music after his death. The collection was certainly not carefully assembled: in the first volume, there are two songs not by Mozart at all and many of the titles do not correspond to the composer’s originals. In one song (no. 10) in the second collection (K.529), the entire text has been replaced.
