Description

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

W.A. Mozarti Missa Pro Defunctis Requiem W.A. Mozarts Seelenmesse mit untergelegtem Deutschem Texte [K.626] [full score], Leipzig: Breitkopf & Härtel, [c.1800]

FIRST EDITION, THIRD ISSUE (= Haberkamp's fourth issue), 178, [2] pages, large oblong folio (26 x 33.5cm), engraved frontispiece, type-set dedication, type-set title, music and text, inscription in the hand of Albi Rosenthal on the inside front cover, stamp of the "Ella Bequest College of Organists" to title, original green wrappers removed by binder, nineteenth-century half calf, modern slipcase, some scattered spotting

THE FIRST EDITION OF MOZART'S UNFINISHED MASTERPIECE.

Although Haberkamp distinguishes between a first issue and a second on the basis that the latter contains the gathering number '1' on the title, it would appear in fact that her first and second issues are one and the same issue, i.e. the first. The present score, conforming to Haberkamp's fourth issue, is therefore in fact the third issue. The work was not published in parts until 1812 (Vienna, Chemische Druckerei).
