Folio (532 x 366mm.), 95 mostly watercolour illustrations, with occasional manuscript captions, 4 photographs and one engraved portrait loosely inserted at the end, contemporary dark purple morocco gilt, edges gilt, first seven leaves detached, extremities rubbed, corners bumped


Illustrations included are predominantly views from Europe to Asia, including scenes of Malta, Greece, Burma, India, and Aden which often feature characters and animals.

Also included is a view of Shakespeare's Cliff, and several maritime scenes.


PROVENANCE:

Includes engraved portrait of Arthur Cumming, presumably Admiral Sir Arthur Cumming (1817-1893), who was active in the 19th century though not stationed on H.M.S. Pilot or H.M.S. Fox, which appear in this book.
