Una casa Una Vida: Collection Yolanda de Fierro - Part I, Sotheby's, Paris, , 21 May 2024, lot 93.

The model for these candelabra was inspired by the work of Robert Adam in the 1760s, a very similar drawing of which is in the Victoria and Albert Museum (8389.20). This model became very popular and silversmiths were quick to produce variants, including Boulton, Daniel Smith and John Scofield, who in 1781 produced a set of candlesticks decorated with laurel leaves for William Beckford, one of the greatest English collectors of the late eighteenth century. There are at least eighteen surviving examples, including a pair dated 1781, sold at Christie's Paris, collection of Madame Nelia Barletta de Cates, 18th March 2003, lot 319.

Scofield made a speciality of this model in the form of a candlestick or two-light candelabra, as is the case with our lot.
