This sumptuous collection of hand coloured plates by the Italian botanist Antonio Targioni Tozzetti (1785-1856) presents flowers and their fruits, especially of the citrus variety, for use in gardens. Targioni Tozzetti was part of a long line of naturalists, scientists and botanists, including his father Ottaviano and grandfather Giovanni, and in 1829 he was appointed director of the Giardino dei Simplici in Florence.
