The Dominican preacher and prelate Giovanni Dominici (c. 1355-1419) was a controversial figure, criticising the Church hierarchy and sympathising with penitential movements. This is one of his many devotional works, addressed to Bartolomea degli Alberti, and based on I Corinthians 13.
