2 volumes in one, oblong 4to (24.5 x 32cm), engraved throughout, red edges, Clermont d'Amboise arms gilt to covers, contemporary speckled calf, rebacked retaining original spine, small tear to upper margin of title of second ballet, light browning


Rameau's ballet Les Fêtes de l'Hymen et de l'Amour, written for the wedding of the dauphin with Maria-Josepha of Saxony, is notable for a number of unique stylistic effects, including that of the impressive ten-voice double chorus with solo voices and orchestra in the scene where the Nile overflows its banks.
