Description
Composed of ten hexagonal-shaped hinged panels bordered by gold beadwork, the front decorated with opaque cloisonné enamelling, in a floral design, each panel centring a cabochon moonstone, divided by a cylindrical hinge, collet-collect set with a pearl, the reverse decorated with floral motifs formed of blue and green cloisonné and red enamel surrounding the back of the moonstones, length approximately 180mm, unsigned.
There was much European fascination with Middle East, North Africa and Asia in the 18th and 19th Century. Falize in particular was inspired by Persian iconography, patterns, and symbol incorporating designs such as floral motifs and mythical animals, which are often found in Persian miniatures, textiles, and metalwork. Not only was the iconography similar but also the colour palettes they used, such as the vivid blues and yellows in this bracelet. For Falize, Persian art offered a wealth of inspiration that aligned with his pursuit of intricate, richly detailed, and culturally evocative designs.
