Description
Composed of links of woven ropetwist design, length approximately 185mm, signed Tiffany & Co France, maker's mark for George Lenfant.
Georges Lenfant was a distinguished jeweller whose superlative craftsmanship made him, and his successors, the virtuosos behind some of the 20th century’s greatest jewels. Founded in 1899 as Duparc and Lenfant, the Lenfant workshop registered its mark, the initials ‘GL’ bisected by a wing and single die, in 1909. George’s son, Jacques, joined the business in 1915 at the age of eleven while pursuing his studies at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs. The pair became renowned for the sophistication of their metalwork, experimenting with different textures, transforming what would otherwise be a simple chain into a crucial design element or an exceptional stand-alone piece. This talent led to commissions from prestigious maisons such as Cartier, Lacloche, Van Cleef & Arpels, Mauboussin, Bulgari René Boivin and Fred, amongst others. Today, finding Lenfant’s distinctive mark is highly gratifying for connoisseurs, signalling excellence and adding lustre to any jewel.
