First edition, second issue. For the second issue, and later issues, the plate for "Rusticus, et Iuppeter" was replaced with the present plate.

 

4to (202 x 153 mm). Roman and italic type, 39 lines. collation: A-Z4 AA-CC4: 104 leaves. Allegorical title-page, 100 full-page engraved plates, historiated initials. (Title stained and trimmed at head affecting plate, worming to last few leaves, browning and foxing.)

 

binding: Eighteenth- or nineteenth-century Italian parchment over pasteboards (206 x 165 mm), spine with two brown morocco lettering-pieces, one with title and other with "2432" in gilt, edges speckled brown. (Some discoloration.)

 

provenance: Convento di Santa Teresa al Museo (Naples), inscription “Conventus Matris Dei Carmelitarum Discalceatorum Biblioth. Interioris” on title-page — unidentified owner, shelf or inventory number “2432” on lettering piece — Laurence Witten, Catalogue 8 (Southport 1978), item 50. acquisition: Purchased from E.K.
