Delfino, Federico. Federici Delphini…De fluxu et refluxu aquae maris, subtilis et erudita disputatio. Eiusdem De motu octauae sphaerae. [Venice]: Accademia Veneziana, 1559

 

The present work was printed with the volvelles on a separate quire (usually called χ4), which were intended to be cut out and pasted over the relevant diagram in quire E, as seen in the present copy. Delfino (ca. 1477-1547) taught astronomy, astrology, and mathematics at Padua.

 

Folio (300 x 205 mm). Roman type, 35 lines plus headline. collation: a4 A-C4 D2 E-H4 (lacking quire χ, but with the volvelles having been cut out and attached to the relevant diagram in quire E): 34 leaves. Engraved device on title-page, eight diagrams, seven volvelles attached with green thread, volvelles. (Lacking one volvelle, and one volvelle detached.)

 

binding: Modern dark brown morocco (309 x 214 mm), covers tooled blind, upper cover with title lettered in gilt, lower cover tooled blind, spine with bands in six compartments tooled blind. (A trifle rubbed.)
