Drew Struzan, who worked a lot with George Lucas on the Star Wars films, was usually given free rein when designing the poster campaigns. However, in this case the art director wanted the characters Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala to pose in the same way that Omar Sharif and Julie Christie did on the Dr. Zhivago poster.

Only twenty of these artist's proofs were printed.  

This epic space film was directed by George Lucas, and written by Lucas and Jonathan Hales. It is the sequel to The Phantom Menace (1999). The cast includes Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Ian McDiarmid, Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Lee, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, and Frank Oz. The story is set ten years after The Phantom Menace, with the galaxy on the verge of civil war.
