An Empire gilt and patinated three-light candelabra, circa 1810


each with a trellis cast cylindrical nozzle above triple-conjoined female masks wearing flower garlands on their veiled heads and fluted tapered stem on cast feet, on circular bases with a leaf cast frieze, issuing two scrolling candle arms and a single candle arm which can be removed to each become a candlestick with one nozzle

45cm. high, 28.5cm. wide, 14cm. diameter; 1ft. 5¾in.; 11¼in.; 5½in.

A candlestick after the same design with comparable herms is shown on a drawing from a catalogue of an unknown Parisian bronze manufacturer (illustrated in Ottomeyer/ Proeschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, München, 1986, p. 326, fig. 5.1.7).
