Richard Riemerschmid is today better known for his – major – contribution to the fields of architecture and decorative arts, but he was originally trained as a painter at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, in the studios of Gabriel Hackl and Ludwig von Löfftz.

Probably dating to the 1910s, this Landscape with a bathing woman is typical of the aesthetic of the Munich Secession. A panoramic format creates space for a spreading, silent landscape, whose treatment is graphic rather than naturalistic, in the midst of which a nude woman is enigmatically positioned.

Si Richard Riemerschmid est aujourd’hui plus célèbre pour sa contribution – majeure – aux domaines de l’architecture et des arts décoratifs, il fut, à ses origines, formé comme peintre, au sein de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts de Munich, dans les ateliers de Gabriel Hackl et de Ludwig von Löfftz.

Datant probablement des années 1910, le Paysage avec la femme au bain est typique de l’esthétique de la Sécession munichoise, avec un format panoramique laissant la place à un vaste paysage silencieux, traité de manière graphique plus que naturaliste, dans lequel une femme nue prend place de façon énigmatique.
