This work is close to a composition by Lucas Cranach the Elder, whose prototype is probably the painting in the Szépmuvészeti Múzeum in Budapest (inv. no. 132), dated 1530.
There are many other known versions by his circle or slightly later – like the present painting – including one, very close to ours in its pictorial treatment, in the Muzeum Palacu Króla Jana III w Wilanowie in Warsaw, dating to about 1600.

L’œuvre est à rapprocher d’une composition de Lucas Cranach l’Ancien, dont le prototype est probablement le tableau conservé au Szépmuvészeti Múzeum de Budapest (inv. 132), datant de 1530.
De nombreuses autres versions de son entourage ou légèrement plus tardives – à l’instar du présent tableau – sont connues, dont l’une, très proche de la nôtre par le traitement pictural, et datée des environs de 1600, est conservée au Muzeum Palacu Króla Jana III w Wilanowie à Varsovie..
