A pair of German Renaissance wheellock holster puffer pistols by Peter Danner, Nuremberg, circa 1580s
each with swamped barrel in two stages, approximately 15mm caliber, struck with the serpent mark and initials P D of the barrelmaker Peter Danner (Neue Støckel 4251), full fruitwood (or walnut) stock profusely inlaid with engraved and tinted staghorn decoration with hunting scenes, huntsman, animals, grotesque masks and cartouches within scrolling interlaced foliage, the wheel with a gilt brass mount cast with two female figures, the ball pommel with a gilt brass lion mask mount, the wooden ramrod with bone tips
