Description

cartouche-shaped, the lid inset with an enamel miniature of a young lady in landscape, a pair of turtle doves at her feet, within an ornate historistic frame chased in high relief, the ground decorated with quatrefoils and white scrolling strapwork in translucent green and opaque white enamel, the baluster sides engraved with flower sprays within c-scrolls, the front and back embellished in green, red and white enamel, the base engraved with matching scrollwork and rocailles, the interior of the lid engraved with a presentation inscription reading: Presented / to / E. C. Ravenshaw Esq / R.C.S / by / Prince Waldemar / of / Prussia / 31st Jany 1845, Hanau shield mark, further struck 14 for 14 ct gold, the left rim engraved: 611,

with an original handwritten letter confirming the provenance
