Nayarit Seated Figure, Lagunillas Type B, Protoclassic, circa 100 BC - AD 250


Height: 9 ¼ in (23.5 cm)

Acquired by 1971 (listed as no. 22 in the September 10, 1973 appraisal of the collection)

The Lazar collection includes a number of the Type B "Chinesco" figures (see lots 24 and 28), each with a deep reddish-brown burnished color and an enigmatic aura. The elongated straight legs and highly flexed feet showing four toes on this figure indicate that she is in the advanced stage of a meditative experience.
