A profusely illustrated guide to coinage, for use by merchants and money changers, which was also printed in a more conventional format. It contains full-size illustrations for coinage from all across Europe. This is one of several official coinage manuals issued in the early seventeenth century.


Agenda folio (305 x 100 mm). Gothic type. collation: *4 A-Gg4 Hh2: 126 leaves. Half title, woodcut arms of Philip III on title-page, numerous woodcuts of coins. (Quire P becoming loose, a few leaves lightly browned.)


binding: Contemporary vellum (309 x 105 mm), foredge flaps, red speckled edges, later cloth slipcase. (Binding slightly soiled.)


provenance: Adriaan Verwer, signature on flyleaf — Gebr. Diederichs, booksellers of Amsterdam, stamp on inside front cover and rear flyleaf (active in the mid-nineteenth century) — extract from a sale catalogue in French pasted to inside front cover (perhaps from Librairie Albert Foulard, Paris, 1889). acquisition: Purchased in 2007 from Ursus Rare Books, New York. references: STCN 314016546; STCV 3121015
