oval, all sides decorated with miniatures painted after Claude-Joseph Vernet's series Vues des ports de France, on vellum: the lid with a miniature after La vue du port de La Rochelle, prise de la petite Rive (1762)the base after La trosième vue de Toulon (1755), signed and dated: De Savignac 1769 to lower centre, the sides further mounted with miniatures painted with views of the ports of Bordeaux, another view of Toulon, Sète and Bayonne, the later lemon and rose gold mounts chased with scrolls around flowerheads within swags, French prestige marks including charge mark of Jean-Jacques Prévost (1762-1768), contremarque of Jean Baptiste Fouache (1774-1780), different date letters to lid and base,
