A silver-gilt mounted Meissen porcelain chinoiserie tankard, Circa 1726

The present tankard represents fanciful chinoiserie scenes typical of the work of J.G. Höroldt and his studio.  The depiction of figures in canopied balconies either side of the cartouche is more uncommon, see the example formerly in the collections of the Hon. Evelena Rothschild and the Behrens Family and a private collection, sale Bonham’s, London, 22nd July 2020, lot 24 for a similar arrangement.  See also the example in the Historische Museum, Bern, inv. no. 28127, published in Pietsch, U.
