Swiss collector Roland Christen (1913 - 1995) worked in India for the pharmaceutical company J.R. Geigy AG from 1947 to 1957. During this period, he assembled an extensive collection of classical and modern Indian art, while also sourcing material for the Museum der Kulturen, Basel. Following his marriage to Irma Dorizzi (1918 - 2006), whose family originated from Poschiavo, Switzerland, the couple donated a substantial portion of the collection to the local municipality. Today, the collection is permanently housed at Musei Valposchiavo, Poschiavo, where it is known as the Christen-Dorizzi Collection.
