Description
the oval stand on four winged paw feet and with an openwork border of shells and anthemion above a grapevine apron, centered by a fruit basket and engraved with presentation inscription, fitted with a cut-glass bowl, the four detachable leaf-capped reeded branches topped by matching cut-glass circular bowls, all on a matching silver-plated mirror plateau, marked on rim of stand and sconces, plateau apparently unmarked

The inscription reads Presented to Mrs Butler on her Marriage by the Boys of Shrewsbury School as a Token of their Kind Regard March 27th, 1828
The Shrewsbury School was founded in 1552 under Edward VI and remains a prestigious institution today. From 1796 to 1836 Dr. Samuel Butler, later the Bishop of Linchfield, was the Headmaster.
