The Demidoff family made its fortune in the 18th century through its foundries, which supplied the tsar’s army, as well as through iron, silver, metal, and precious stone mines in the Urals and southern Siberia. Just like the city of Tula, whose factory diversified its production to include furniture and objets d’art in the mid-18th century, the Demidoffs manufactory also produced works of art using copper from their mines, including everyday objects such as teapots and coffee pots featuring embossed and chiselled decoration, as seen on our kettle and coffee pot.
