Description

from a set of 'The Seasons', each elegantly dressed figure wearing gilt-edged white costume and modelled standing on a rockwork base, 'Autumn' as a young lady holding a dish of grapes and with grapes and vine leaves applied to the base, 'Winter' as a gentleman with his hat tucked under his left arm and his hands in a black fur muff, a pair of skating blades at his feet


Height 29.9 cm; 11 ¾ in

For the lady figure of 'Autumn' together with a gentleman as 'Spring' see Graul and Kurzwelly, Altthüringer Porzellan, Leipzig, 1909, p. 65, nos. 48 and 47, respectively.  A set of four figures, allegorical of  'The Seasons', was sold at Sotheby's, London, 26 June 1971, lot 49.
