Description

modelled by J. J. Kändler, with a lady seated by a treestump playing the lute, a sheep at her feet, her gallant companion leaning towards her to offer a posy of flowers, the mound base applied with flowers and foliage

Height 13.7 cm; 5 ⅜ in

This model is first mentioned in Kändler’s Taxa in November 1745: "ein Groupgen, da eine Schäfferin auff einem Rasen sizt und auff der Laute spielet, neben ihr stehet ein Schäffer, so ihr ein Blühmigen Vergißmeinnicht verehret" [a group with a shepherdess seated on the grass and playing the lute, a shepherd stands next to her offering her forget-me-nots] (quoted by Hans Rafael, Zur "Taxa Kaendler", in Keramos 203/204, 2009, p. 66). Another example of this group is in the Victoria and Albert Musuem, London (accession no. C.932-1919).
