Treasures from Chatsworth, Episode 1: Lucian Freud’s 'Woman in a White Shirt'

A portrait of Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire, commissioned from Lucian Freud, caused a sensation in British society. Now 'Woman in a White Shirt' is “probably the most beautiful thing at Chatsworth,” says the current Duke, who recalls the close friendship between Freud and the Cavendish family in the series premiere of 'Treasures from Chatsworth, Presented by Huntsman.'

This summer, Sotheby's is honored to present Treasures from Chatsworth – a rare, public exhibition of works from the fabled Devonshire Collection of Chatsworth House. Free of charge and open to the public, Treasures from Chatsworth will be on view from 28 June through 13 September 2019 in Sotheby’s renovated New York galleries, located at 1334 York Avenue.
