In the spring, Sotheby’s will offer a wide range of decorative arts pieces including furniture, silver, sculptures and works of art, from Renaissance to 19th century. It will offer several collections, including one of around 20 pieces from a Paris antiques dealer. The group attests to a taste for 18th-century French chairs, such as this rare “commode” armchair made by Georges Jacob for the Duc d’Orléans at the Château du Raincy, together with a superb silver-gilt tea and coffee set made by Odiot for Grand-Duke Mikhail Pavlovitch, Tsar Alexander I’s brother and an extremely rare gold oval dish embossed with the cypher of Empress Catherine II.
