Results: From 2-5 December 2015 Sotheby's New York presented a three-volume series of single-owner sales of Property from the Collection of Robert S Pirie, one of the world's leading book collectors. Volume I and II totaled an outstanding $14.9 million. The top lot of the books sale was a copy of Isaac Newton'sOptics, presented to Edmund Halley, sold for $1.3 million.
Details: From 2-5 December 2015 Sotheby’s New York will present a three-volume series of single-owner sales of Property from the Collection of Robert S Pirie, one of the world’s leading book collectors. Over 60 years, Mr. Pirie built the finest collection of 16th- and 17th-century English literature in private hands. Volumes I and II features significant copies of works by William Shakespeare, Ben Jonson, Christopher Marlowe, and John Donne among others. Volume III is comprised of an extensive range of American paintings and drawings, English and Continental furniture, English silver, French porcelain and Asian art.
