Catalogue Note

First edition, large-paper copy, with the rare leaves containing "Assertiones quaedam" after the second leaf S2, present in only a few copies. Adamson (1537-1592), who became Archbishop of St. Andrews in 1576, was one of the most controversial Scottish prelates, adopting strong measures against the Presbyterians, for which his enemies secured his excommunication in 1586 and in 1588.
