The Old Master Sculpture sale was one of the most successful in the company’s history with eleven lots, ranging from a Romanesque marble relief with the Fountain of Life to a Rococo bust of a woman by Francesco Schiaffino, breaching the £100,000 mark. All of these top lots were sold to private collectors. In addition, nearly 100% of early jewellery and enamels sold.
This July’s sale of Old Master Sculpture and Works of Art will showcase some of the finest three-dimensional objects on the market. The auction features masterpieces of European sculpture, jewellery, and applied arts from the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical periods. The sale includes properties from a number of prominent private collections, with provenances reaching far back into the 19th century. The department will present several important rediscoveries at the sale including major works by Jacob Agnesius, Mathieu van Beveren, Giovanni Bonazza and Francesco Maria Schiaffino, as well as a large triptych from the Ubriachi workshop and a little medieval chess piece in the form of a fool riding a monster.
