RESULTS

The Russian Art Day sale brought a strong total of £3,077,850. The top lot was the beautiful sunset on the Black Sea by Ivan Aivazovsky, which sold for £194,500, over double its pre-sale estimate.

OVERVIEW

Encompassing paintings, works on paper and photographs from the 19th century to the contemporary, this sale includes Konstantin Makovsky’s elegant Portrait of a Lady, last on public view in St Petersburg in 1905. Other highlights are Alexander Yakovlev’s Portrait of Bohemi, Avungura Chief, and a rare portrait by Mosnier of the son of Count Alexander Vasilievich Suvorov-Rymnitsky.
