Czech Avant-Garde Art from the Roy & Mary Cullen Collection attracted global interest from collectors, as well as buying and bidding from museums and institutions in the UK and US. Over 82% of lots were sold. In total, 40% of lots sold in the Cullen sale were bought by clients in the Czech Republic, the majority of whom were new to Sotheby's.
On 12 November Sotheby’s will present Czech Avant–Garde Art from the Roy and Mary Cullen Collection. The collection focuses on the story of Czech Surrealism and Avant-garde art between the wars as told by the artists, illustrators and writers of the time. The paintings, works on paper, photographs, prints and books capture the visual, literary and intellectual ideas that flourished in Prague and Paris during this period.
