The Old Master & British Paintings Day sale on 4 July 2013 brought a total of £4,614,400. Top lots included two views of Vaspio by the Circle of Bernardo Bellotto, a still life by Pieter de Ring and Jan Josefsz. van Goyen’s A View of Dordrecht.
This July’s Day sale includes a particularly strong group of 17th-century Dutch and Flemish paintings, with several works by Jan Brueghel the Younger, a late Pieter Claesz and a jewel-like River Estuary by Jan van Goyen. The 18th century is also well represented with works by Fragonard, Vigée Le Brun and Amigoni being of particular note. Further works from the collection of the late Dr Gustav Rau, sold to benefit the Foundation of the German Committee for UNICEF, will also be on offer.
