Condition

Overall, this work appears to be in generally good condition. There is a stable crack over the pink lily on the right. There are stable craquelures towards the upper margin to the centre and to the right. There are traces of wearing and a few losses along the edges visible in the catalogue illustration. No traces of retouching appear to be visible under UV light.

"While De Pisis created, it resulted more and more evident the spiritual fracture among the serene world of Manet, sensually resolved in painting, [...] and the so disturbed and whimsical mood that confessed in him a new restlessness, spiritually more complex than the cheerful serenity of the French Impressionist masters."

Rodolfo Pallucchini, in Lettere e Arti, Venezia, febbraio 1946
