Condition

original canvas; a few little retouches scattered across the surface; a few thin wear in some areas, especially on the trousers; in some other places the layer of paint is thin (probably willingly), especially in the trees; irregular drips of varnish visible, of which some fluoresce under UV light; very good condition

Catalogue Note

Marcel-Marie-Emile Laffon (1897 - 1976), banquier, fils de Gustave Laffon (1864-1918) directeur du Comptoir national d'escompte notamment à Roubaix puis à Nice, reprendra les affaires de son père à la mort de ce dernier.
Marié à Renée Célérier (1898-1966), Marcel Laffon vivait entre son hôtel particulier du 18 rue de la Ferme à Neuilly-sur-Seine et son château de Quincoubre à Pleudihen dans les Côtes d'Armor.
C'est devant la façade de son hôtel particulier aujourd'hui détruit que pose ici Marcel Laffon, assis sur l'une des douze chaises de la salle à manger parisienne de Bernard Boutet de Monvel (cf. Collection Boutet de Monvel, Sotheby's, Paris, 5 & 6 avril 2016, lot 77) et accoudé à un guéridon tripode d'époque Charles X ayant également appartenu au peintre (même vente, lot 121).
