toile from Belot ; network of craquelures visible ; a few craquelures on the hair ; little repainted area at the top of the hair ; tiny repainted area on the right breast ; a few thin craquelures repainted on the face ; light repainted touches on the chin and the cheeks, hardly visible under UV lamp

Catalogue Note

La robe et les bijoux du modèle nous permettent de dater le tableau des années 1810 environ. Par sa qualité, notre tableau peut être rapproché du portrait de Caroline, reine de Naples et ses enfants (vers 1808-1810), (Musée national du château de Malmaison, Rueil-Malmaison).

La tradition familiale des propriétaires actuels veut que la jeune femme soit Caroline Murat, soeur de Napoléon Bonaparte. Cette identification n'est pas certaine mais elle est possible si l'on compare notre portrait à celui du château de Malmaison.
