We are grateful to Martin Lanyon and Toby Treves for their kind assistance with the cataloguing of the present work.

Between 1951 and 1958 Lanyon made an unknown number of ceramics at the Leach Pottery in St Ives and at the Bath Academy of Art at Corsham Court. Rather than throwing pots, Lanyon used the 'slab-build' method and turned to Warren Mackenzie for basic techniques and James Tower for advice on slip decoration.

'His distorted little pots had a pleasant air of benign ferocity' (Robert Melville, Review of the 'Ceramics in the Home' exhibition, The Observer, 1952)
