Condition
The canvas is lined, the paint surface is slightly dirty and the varnish has darkened somewhat. Much of the impasto brushwork remains intact, though a degree of wear is visible in much of the darker areas of the painting. There are two pin prick losses upper centre, and one lower centre. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals two campaigns of restoration. The more recent one consists of small spot retouchings, notably around the reclining figure, and to a damage on the lower margin, just right of centre. The older campaign is more difficult to discern, but appears to consist of retouching throughout much of the background. In overall fair condition. Offered in a parcel gilt, Spanish-style frame in good condition.
